Yeah that's true, and the precedent HT set with Tony Stank couldn't be applied here since they simply reused the MK50 headsculpt as the replacement. This is their first Mace so they'd have had to start from scratch to get it right which they were never gonna do.
Let’s just be real; the Tony Stank swap ONLY happened b/c the Asian market cried out. USD is the only care they have for the west, imo, your mileage may vary.

Something to keep in mind is how they outsource sculpting. There are some sculpters that have a precident for masterpieces that ive followed on instagram, and its eye opening when their portfolio is all the sculpts that have been amazing

Here are some screen caps from MRC’s review:

😇😇😇😇

MRC’s video doesn’t show me what i haven’t already seen with those blogger photos. Just different lighting and it’s in motion. It doesn’t magically bring out the Rupaul-…I mean SLJ likeness.

But if they were so lazy and couldn’t be arsed to sculpt another SLJ, they could’ve taken one of their fury sculpts and repurposed it for a mace sculpt. Sure it would’ve been a recycle, but at least it would’ve looked like SLJ.

Yup assuming it was possible to repurpose it that could have been a better option.. I'm now just hoping a third party can nail it

I don think it's as bad as some are making it out to be, Yes, we've all gotten a bit picky with likenesses and with good reason, for the amount of money we pay.
Not to go off on a tangent, but this nowhere as bad as the Ahsoka series version 1 figure. That was seriously a case of "yes its her but its not Rosario." I sold it because it was so glaring to me after Version 2 was previewed.

I guess it boils down to choosing if you want the figure that represents the character or the actor. How crappy that we can't have both.

Had there been a ROTS Mace with a far more accurate portrait, I’m positive everyone here would unanimously agree “yikes the old one was WAY off. Oh man. Those that got the 1.0 can’t be too happy with this…”

It’s literally the same old song and dance. Rinse and repeat.

I found these off eBay:

Clearly it’s VERY scene specific…but good lord is that not a damn good SLJ likeness.

And this is what we should have gotten:

Shave off the beard, epoxy up the scars and bam, a MUCH better looking Mace. HT had ONE job. Instead they had the unpaid intern take a crack at the galaxy’s bad*** Mutha*****.

Hell if I wanted, I should buy this head, have someone paint it, grey up the beard, slap that on my SSC mace and bam, got my own head cannon “mace survived order 66” figure going on.

Much like with Ahsoka, some folk will defend saying they see actor in the sculpt and will poo poo anyone saying otherwise as being too negative blah blah. Then a 2.0 happens with much improved likeness and suddenly there is unanimous agreement the 1.0 was terrible since as said in the post above, they finally have something to compare to. Some people get blinded by detail and are unable to see lack of likeness. I think it is just how some brains work, they eyes are drawn to what a specific person sees as Identifying features. For most it is the eyes, hence why most immediately see the poor likeness, for others it may be the nose or the mouth. For people who are really terrible with faces, their attention will gravitate to outfit even. "Looks like Mace to me" they will say, because they are seeing the identifying elements of Mace Windu and are technically blind to it not looking anything like Sam Jackson.

That was exactly my plan lol. Appears to be a recast of the Nick Fury sculpt.

I got one of those when Hot Toys announced their Mace and showed the first images. I remember I was immediatly disappointed with the HT sculpt because it was off on a fundamental level and I like SLJ and Mace so much and would have loved to add him to the collection.

That Nick Fury sculpt has such a good SLJ likeness... and then we get this.
