Nothing wrong with the base. You wont be looking at the base if you get this statue, trust me.

The thing that really struck me about this piece was the quality of the paint. Not only application, but the paint itself appears to be automotive quality, like the finish on a Lexus.

:goodpost: :exactly: Couldn't agree more. The base is the same as the IS Mk 42 base, which is fine imo but nothing special. As duckman stated, the paint app is simply stellar on this suit and as anyone familiar with the Mk 42 knows, it's a complex paint scheme that must be a complete headache for painters haha. The Stark portrait is also fantastic imo and the paint app on that is Hot Toys quality, it's THAT good.

Just got this today and WOW, it's flawless... The paint even gives the statue a metal look to it... Not really crazy about the pepper pots portrait but RDJ and IM portraits are awesome.... Quality wise this statue put's to shame other IM statues I've seen.... People ask why do you spend so much for a statue, all I can say is until you have an XM statue you will never know...

Great pic!

Dredging up this old thread because I've been thinking about getting one - so curious to hear opinions of people who still have it, e.g. has it held up after ~3 years compared to newer IM statue offerings?

it's not a very popular XM piece, the heavy gold design of the suit is a turn off for most folks I think. But if you like it you can find it for a decent price on the FB groups, and even on eBay.

Thanks guys.

Dunno where else to ask this - is there a 1/4 scale statue (i.e. not Hot Toys) of the Mark 45? I'm aware of the existing Mark 43 statues, and the upcoming Mark 46, but can't think of a Mark 45.

There's none that I'm aware of. Kotobuyika did a 1/6 scale, but as you said, you're looking for 1/4 scale.

What for? I have owned both but never photographed them. They are very similarly proportioned but the HT has the far superior paint app and stark sculpt.

That's probably why:

Why purchase an XM piece when Hot Toys can do it better - which I guess is what Yoda is trying to figure out.

So I take it you kept the Hot Toys version and sold the XM?

The XM piece looked great while I had it. Displayed nicely with the HT 1/4 mark 43 I had at the time. But yeah eventually sold both and got myself an HT 1/4 42 right as it sold out. Zero regrets.

In order to help decide if I want to get one vs the other. Its hard to compare e.g. paint apps from pictures taken of each separately (usually by different people in different lighting, etc).

Interesting - thanks.

Curious why you let go the HT 1/4 Mark 43 - ?

How much is the Hot Toys version going for at the moment? Is it close to the XM in price??

I think the deluxe Mark 42 is around $600, and you can get the XM Mk 42 for about $650 new from BBTS. I suppose the regular HT 1/4 Mk 42 is an option, and that is more like $500.

Oh ****. WOW. I didn't realize the XM when for that cheap.

Personally, I'd go with XM. Doesn't HTs IM pieces have a history of fading issues? Not saying ALL do, but isn't that a wide spread concern with this line?
