No need to apologise mate, my comment wasn't directed solely at you. If you do, that would be great, thank you :rock
I love a lively debate but when it starts getting into Politics, well we've all seen how they turn out :lol

I agree also that the majority of alleged re-casters that we hear of seem to come from Asia but we have to try and not be judgemental about millions of people for the sake of a few bad guys.
I hope they (and all recasters) are caught and/or something is done because the problem just seems to be getting scarier with more items being reproduced.
Just my thoughts anyway
x :peace

Many of the governments located in Asian countries can't even regulate what's put into the food supply (look at all the recent Melanin poisonings in toothpaste, dog food, and baby formula). So I highly doubt that a few recasts shops here and there are going to get much notice. I'm guessing that the paint used on recasts probably contains lead as well.

Thank you.

Those of you gung ho about demonizing the populations of entire countries: how about if someone made a statement like "I don't sell to Americans and Australians because there are so many scammers in those countries". No difference in that and not selling to Singapore or (heaven forbid) China because they're "full of recasters".

Now, this point is a bit different from exercising additional caution when you are BUYING from a seller in a country where recasting occurs, but this is all about protecting yourself as a consumer.

Making the assumption that someone is buying a statue just so they can recast it based on where they happen to live borders on abject idiocy.

Recasting is a global issue (if it is in fact an issue), might I remind folks that about a year ago someone posted seeing fake SSC product from good ol' California. They were really bad but there were homegrown. What makes the Asian situation unique is that they have really good ones there where its difficult to tell from the originals but it isn't a problem that is only outside our borders.

See, jbinny should stop selling to Americans too! :rotfl

Also, Mesa, I think you meant "melamine", not "melanin". You're not the only person to mix those up; considering what we're talking about here, "melanin poisoning" brings up some funny imagery. :D

Totally agree. I mean...
if we were to adopt THAT extremist kind of thinking, names like Clinton and Madoff would either imply Americans all do sex in the office or are 50billion ponzi scammers ... :rotfl

But what makes recasting an issue--if it is in fact one, which you may dispute--that has to do with Asian countries is there already proven capacity to manufacture fakes of many hi-end items and those items' ability to find there way here. This coupled with loose laws in Asian countries which enable this form of business, make the focus (as in this thread) on the Asian persuasion, so to speak.

I think what The Mike is saying (and I know this is what I'm saying) is that we should not be making the jump to assume that all Asians are recasters and that we should, say, boycott selling them things or else they'll get them recasted.

The fact that yes, many recasts do originate there is reason to exercise additional caution when completing a deal for a high-priced item with someone in those countries; however, extra caution should be exercised in any case where an international transaction is involved as scams of all sorts are easier when there are more layers of bureaucracy between ends of a bargain, as there necessarily are when more than one national government is a party to a transaction.

"Dude, don't buy stuff from Spain, that Twinch Squad guy was from Spain, they'll rape your wallets!"

That is exactly what I'm saying. For some its not an issue. For some it is. For those where it is an issue just need to remember that its a global issue.

Err....in case you are not aware. Most, if not all, of the licensed busts/statues are manufactured in China ....

BTW, the clothes are sculpted on the PFs.
I also noticed the sculpted clothes. I'm not surprised that this is turning into a cottage industry especially with the cost of these rare pieces on the after market. A repainted Stealth Ironman to red & gold just sold for 1,300 on ebay. The temptation is just to great for them not to try. I guess we know what Rolex owners feel like when they see a cheap knock off. Well on the good side imitation is a form of flattery.

Yeah i know. I think that's a given. I'm talking about the knock offs . Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

First of all i am from thailand and has been recently introduced to SS... Unf SS has no distributor inThailand and the only 2 ways to buy SS stuffs are via SS website and ebay.....

i ve bought some statues from SS website but unf

on 14 Apr i have bought a re-cast IM from Indonesia via ebay @ 688 + 130 shipping to Thailand....before coming across your site the very next day

now i am negotiating with the seller to either give me back all my money or give me a very very serious discounts on the piece...

for your purist... buying a re-cast is probably out of question.....because you guys have better opportunities in the USA to buy...for me i could lose min of USD 200 just for shipping cost if the piece is broken then have to return or the piece is turned out to be a re-cast

i would rather buy originals anyday but for some pieces that i will never have a chance to even see in real life....a re-cast for just displaying in my home..would not hurt anyone.

What upset me is that if you are selling a re-cast you should tell the world you are selling a re-cast and the individuals who would like to buy will judge for themselves

China could copy anything....they copied a German tape line machine that is also use in my plastic factory worth over 1.5 millions USD and selling for USD 200,000 in the market.....that is life...what can you do ? all the Chinese did was buy one machine from Germany then copied and sell it to the World

so bottom line is that If there is a market for a product there always be a copied / fake.. you could never stop it

what the people in this thread could do is educate other people how to spot re-casts... and eventually lower their profit margins and once the margins drop....re-caster would think relatively hard before re-casting any product

at least you guys are helping me on my recent misfortune so thank you very much for that

yes lcummins this company suppose to be a distributor in thailand.....SS also told me to buy from there as i could not use credit card to buy from SS

Thank you for your email. I am sorry for any misunderstanding regarding your order. Unfortunately, the email that you received from Mike is correct.

I have also included the name of a distributor in Thailand that carries Sideshow products. It may be a more convenient option for you to purchase our products from the distributor.

Orders placed from the following countries will need to be paid with an International Money Order or Bank Draft in US funds: Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Micronesia, and various Central American and African Countries.

Please let me know if I can assist you further!
Best regards, Kathy Harter

at the end i paid SS using Bank draft

anyway when i e-mailed the Thai distributor them asking about SS statues the guy wrote back and said if i would like to order i have to order big quantity like min of 10 pcs / statue

So i asked them whether i could go to the showroom and see some SS stuffs there he then told me that his company does not hold any inventory therefore do not have ANY SS item in the showroom

aparently not many people are buyiing SS product in thailand :banghead

so that was the end of it ..

nonetheless the guy was very helpful and very polite

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned as an educational FYI but are the inner stryro, color art box and shipping box fake as well?

My gut feeling is that the answer will unfortunately be YES and if they are then that is just so very disturbing and depressing.

Thank You

There has been discussions on this and it comes down to two ideas:

1. Some of the GREY, SIDESHOW stamped inner stryro, color art box and shipping boxes were stolen early on for the Hulk vs. Spidey dio and the Ironman Comiquette.

2. Yes, the recasters are making fakes of the GREY, SIDESHOW stamped inner stryro, color art box and shipping box as well.

Either way, people should not believe an item is authentic just on the grey styro, color box, and shipping box.
