Re: GG Legolas and Gimli Animaquette

They're just cool looking and a neat twist on LOTR. No different than the old LOTR cartoons that some fans love.

Why is it so hard to get folks like them?

Why is it so easy for you to get into them? :lol

J/K. I just don't like the look of animated pieces. Whether it be LotR, Star Wars, Pirates, etc.

Just doesn't do anything for me.

Hey we all like our own thing, these just seem cheap to me. I don't personally like the idea of taking a classic piece of literature or even an Academy Award winning film and turning it into a Sunday morning funny.

Nothing personal, they just ain't my bag.

I'm fine with liking it and people not but I wouldn't go calling them cheap, and I sure as heck wouldn't be collecting them if they where ACTUALLY cheap looking. It isn't the first time they've been done in an animated style. So I'm not sure what the fuss is. Its just a cool look 4 me. I can't really explain what it is I like but they just are appealing to my eye.

By cheap I am referring to the sculpts themselves, they are very undefined -- as it goes with the animated style -- there just isn't much to them, and the paint is really quite flat. If anything they remind me of the little plastic figures you used to get from cereal boxes or something. I have seen these in person, so I am not totally basing my opinion on pics.

Either way they seem to be selling well and a good many people must be into these.

You said it they're animated therefore look the way they're meant too. So I don't think that part holds much water from my POV. I've got no issues with the way the ones I have are painted I've got GTG, Saruman, and a Promo RWOS. They're all pretty nicely done but I know you don't care for GG pieces anyways. Anyways, I can't agree they're anything close to what you get out of cereal boxes at least none I can buy here locally but maybe they have nicer ones out west.

A good many do seem to like them. So they must be doing something right anyways.

I think I agree and disagree with you guys on this. They are not "verbatim" scultps of the characters from the movies, which I like. I like the odd, unique aspects of the sculpts. I only have Gandalf/Saruman at the moment, will get the rest later on, the only caveat I found is that my Saruman looks like it has a lazy eye from certain angles (which I've heard is on most of them, which I don't mind too much).

Re: GG Legolas and Gimli Animaquette

I'm still waiting on mine from Fireside, along with the ringwraith on Steed. It's a good thing I keep an inventory of what I get and from where or I'd probably lose track of what's on order.

Re: GG Legolas and Gimli Animaquette

I think the animated line in general has the ability to turn a somewhat boring character/scene and add some fun to it. Not all the pieces hit it out of the park, but the nature of the line insures that every piece makes something new out of something old and familiar. I think that's why I collect the line.

Anyone that has seen the RWOS in person can certainly appreciate the thought and detail that went into it. It's the most complex animated piece they have done so far. I wouldn't call it "flat".

All that said, I fear for this line. I don't think the support is there from people. Not even the variant RWOS from AFX at 500 ES has started the "Padme frenzy" this line is looking for. I bet if it was a Galadriel, Arwen or Eowyn people would react differently...

I just don't think LOTR has the niche market that SW does. Even the SW OT animated maquettes are having a hard time selling though.

I have a feeling this line will not see too many more installments. You'll be lucky to get the Fellowship.

I think we'll get the Fellowship and several more. Especially with The Hobbit coming they'll keep this going.

I got Gimli and Legolas last night along with my # RWOS and all 3 are quite cool. I love these things.

This is a great line, the figures are awesome. Got my Legolas and Gimli yesterday, great looking pieces.

I got Legolas & Gimli too...
Although it's a very small piece it's very detailled and I won't miss it in my small collection.
Sometimes I thought of quitting that line, but I'm glad I did not! :rock

Not bad. But, I just can't get into anything Gentle Giant puts out...
