You never get "burned" if you are a buyer on ebay.... anything goes wrong and you will be refunded. Literally no risk, maybe a minor inconvenience at worst.
Well, I mean burned in the sense they got a bootleg or something not as advertised. You'll more than likely get a full refund but still feels like a burn considering you wanted a legit item, the person tricked and either didn't send you the item or send you something that was garbage. Now you're out your time and you're not getting the ''good deal'' you thought you were getting. Sure feels like a burn when you spend money and don't get the item and are lied too.
It still is possible to get burned and lose money. People who later found out the figure they bought was actually a bootleg, well after Paypal's protection has expired. Countless stories of this happening. This has happened to a few friends from this very site. You get a Hot Toys or some other figure, looks legit. Then maybe a year or a few years you decide to sell it and the person buying it knows what to look for and you find out your rare figure is a bootleg.
Now, the buyer protection is gone and you're potential out 100's of dollars. If that's not a burn, I don't know what is.
Also, buying a fake or getting screwed out of an Item can also cause you to miss out on legit items you could have bid on and got a fair price because you think the item you're waiting on is legit.
Plus those Chinese sellers that claim your item is going to take a while to come, sometimes a month or longer depending on customs, you look at the tracking and it doesn't have good up to date info on the location and then your item comes and you get seafood instead of your item lol. Those scams were funny but some people had a hassle with Ebay and Paypal because the sellers packed that stuff full of random items and it had the same wieight or similar and the seller claimed the buyer was lying and etc lol. I mean, even if you get your money returned, having to deal with all that time, hassle and etc isn't just a minor inconvenience when it's 100's of dollars, that's a pain in the ass. Especially if the item is for a child and you don't have any other money to replace the item and have to wait until you're refunded.
I think it's usually best to avoid the ''It's too good to be true deal''.
