Warner Bros Announces New Mortal Kombat
Written Thursday, June 10, 2010 By Dan Webb
Although many of you might have been disappointed to hear that this week's Mortal Kombat clip was only a movie pitch, this news is sure to please MK fans and fighting fans from here to Timbuktu.
Ahead of next week's trade show, E3, Warner Bros today announced the latest iteration in their Mortal Kombat franchise which they're calling the "most brutal" one to date - and judging by the trailer, that doesn't seem far off.
Being developed by NetherRealm Studios, who are headed up by famed MK creator Ed Boon, the title they're billing as just "Mortal Kombat" will not only feature up to 4 player tag-team, but will also include a two player "Co-Op Arcade Mode," as well of the traditional versus modes.
The 2D fighter not only welcomes back Fatalities - which are more gory than ever - and is driven by an all new graphics engine, but Warner are saying that it is the "deepest story mode of any fighting game" - although, they don't have much competition there.
"This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!" said Boon.
Mortal Kombat is due for release in 2011. Now, get over here watch the trailer.
