Six hour miniseries based on Arthur C. Clarke's novel. Premieres December 14. Childhood's End – Show | Syfy

Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhood’s End, one of the most acclaimed science fiction novels of all time, will come to life in a first ever adaptation. A six-hour Childhood’s End miniseries will begin airing Monday, December 14 on Syfy at 8:00pm ET/PT, continuing Tuesday, December 15 and concluding Wednesday, December 16.

From Syfy and Universal Cable Productions, Childhood’s End is executive produced by Akiva Goldsman (Lone Survivor, A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) and Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips, Moneyball, The Social Network) and features a cast led by Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”), Mike Vogel (“Under the Dome”), Daisy Betts “(The Last Resort”), Yael Stone (“Orange is the New Black”), Julian McMahon (“Nip/Tuck”), Osy Ikhile (“The Fear”) and Colm Meaney (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”).

Childhood’s End follows the peaceful invasion of Earth by the alien Overlords, who promise to eliminate poverty, war and sickness – ushering in a golden age of peace, health and security for all of humankind. But why do the Overlords insist on hiding their appearance – and what do they ultimately want from Earth? While much of the world enjoys its newfound utopia, some suspect there’s a price to pay. As the truth about the Overlords’ intentions are revealed, humanity will discover its actual destiny may actually be a nightmare, instead of a dream.

Childhood’s End is adapted by Matthew Graham (creator of BBC’s “Life on Mars” and “Ashes to Ashes”), who serve as writer/executive producer. Alissa Phillips (Moneyball, “Mob City”) serves as co-executive producer.

The book is great. Who knows how this will turn out...

This just crossed my mind but with the "rise" of exclusive adult-themed series on Netflix, HBO, Amazon, etc. and looking back at some of these "classic" Sci-Fi tales. I think it's time to do DUNE right!

You can seriously make the entire book run a great series in line with Game of Thrones. I'm surprised no one has leaped on it yet. And even though the Prequels aren't as well done as Frank Herbert's core series, those could be potential spin-off's.

watching the first episode now, loving it. 80 minutes long too. not these short 45 minute episodes most series have.

You don't need to read the book, but once this is done you should.

I'm really liking this. I would've liked that Karellen had his black armor like described by Arthur C. Clarke, but it's Charles Dance, can't complain.

RT gave it a 60% I think, damn fools.

Watched part 1 and its a serious snooze fest...you all got me excited for that?!?!?!?!?!!?!?? Last shot at end was very cool and all, but man...wasn't that good

I really liked it. The Overloads were great. I found it a bit disturbing at the end, but that's just me.

You only watched the first part?

You seem surprised by the "disturbing" ending. There are dozens of sci-fi films/tv shows with very similar endings.

I thought the show was alright. Pretty generic, but not bad quality. The most intriguing part to me was the fact that the aliens' appearance was our idea of demons/the devil. I guess they didn't really go anywhere with that though.

I'd love a statue of Charles Dance as Karellen.
