Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I guess Oliver Hardy is the exception...

Hardy: 6'1"
Laurel: 5'9"

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

That's so interesting...! Maybe because they were on the shorter side, they had to find a way to grab attention when they were young so they chose comedy. Come to think of it, Seinfeld, and others nowadays are probably still under six feet...can anyone think of a comic over 6 feet? Along with Oliver Hardy at 6'1" John Candy (Uncle Buck), was 6'2"...other than those two, who?

Will Ferrell comes to mind, he's a big man at 6'3".

I also thought W.C. Fields was a big guy but I checked and he was 5'8".

I guess that top hat, of his, threw off my perception.

Here are two more:

Buster Keaton: 5'5"

Harold Lloyd: 5'10"

Monty Python custom figures would be good... from their Flying Circus avatars though... Holy Grail doesnt really cut it for me...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Yeah, John Cleese and the ministry of silly walks would be a great figure and dio to do...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

John Cleese: 6'5"

Tallest one yet.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

We are starting to roll..how about Bill Murray...they say he's 6'2", but that seems to tall to me. Maybe with Hollywood lifts in his shoes..

Speaking of big guys...

With Chaplin coming soon what 1/6 sculpt would be a good match for Eric Campbell?

This guy:

I think it would be great to see him and Charlie on display together.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Here's a sculpt up on eBay now...you would have to work up his eyebrows and create his unique beard, but you may be able to get pretty close...

Do a search on: Soldier Story US NAVY EODMU-11 Head 1/6

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Yeah!

I can see it. Some Spock eyebrows and a beard and I think it will work.

I will look into it when I order my bodies, fat suit, etc for Mr. Laurel and Mr Hardy.

Thanks Jerry!

I think that would be great. Hope you're not against it...

Wouldn't this be great to have?! Barney deserves to be included in the classics...for any objection, we will have to "nip it...nip it in the bud"!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

No doubt about it...

Spencer is on the move with these. I bet we'll eventually see Ralph and Ed.

I was thinking about where the model for comedy teams started. I've traced the evolution back to Mr. Hardy and Mr. Laurel. Every team seems a derivative of their model. Everyone after them are in many ways copies. Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, Ralph and Ed, Barny and Andy, The Skipper and Gilligan all have their roots in Laurel and Hardy.

The question is who did Laurel and Hardy use? Who before them did they use as models?

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Great question! My mind also went to cartoons we watched as kids (Fred and Barney, Yogi and Boo Boo) also being influenced...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Bill Hanna the creator of "The Flintstones" said that he based the show on the "Honeymooners and set it in the stone age. Even the voices of Fred and Barney are thinly disguised versions of Gleason and Carney.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I just heard from Spenser that Barney Fife will be available soon...
