Yeah, they're OK overall you pretentious ******. :lol

They have hits, and misses. Too many misses to count. I had to buy some crappy figures just to finish off that collection. Sin City had the worst. Great sculpts, but awful...AWFUL paint.

Hey Sabres,

I just joined the Hunter's Lair. Has anybody ever copied pics of my stuff to show over there (I don't mind at all), or should I start doing so now?

I don't post there alot, but I don't think I've seen your stuff there.

Most of those guys have been members along time and kinda stick to themselves. So, they really just post their own stuff.

So, I say go for it dude. You're work is great.

If the guy wants plasma caster detail, why doesn't he just find the Hot Toys figure. Looks pretty accurate. Certainly enough for reference.

That's a recipe for mediocre results, at least when it comes to accuracy. I mean, just look at Tsang's blog... he's got McF's alien on his table as reference material!

Well, this is starting to sound like it's NOT going to be Neca.

Which, frankly, makes me sad. :(

Here's the guy's latest post...

"Thanks for the help, I found some pics of carlart's recreation. His gun is helpful, but only in that it shows me what another sculptor concluded when he pours over screen caps and images, which is what I am doing myself. Not useless, because it can be helpful to see what another sculptor desciphered, but images of the original are of course preferred. I believe I have seen everything that can be seen from screen captures, so any other close-up pictures of predator, especially showing his backpack, gun and gauntlets, from books, magazines, whatever, would be awesome. Even other artist's recreations, especially if it is considered the most accurate to date recreation, would be appreciated, if clearly labeled as not original. In fact, I wouldn't mind more pictures of Carlart's interpretation of the gun. Is his considered closest to original by the community, including guns sculpted for professional statues and collectables?

Images of the original plasmacaster, or castings from original molds, especially revealing the back, bottom and side facing the predators head are top priority. It is very difficult to find that "other side" of the plasmacaster but it seems from pg. 104 of 'the Winston Effect' and 1:28:34 in the movie, as well as some of your fan reproductions that it isn't perfectly semetrical.

It would really be helpful if pictures were posted here, or even links directly to pictures and not whole websites ( I know I'm sounding lazy, but we are behind schedule and the less I need to search the better. I was on this site many hours longer than I meant to be last night and don't want to get caught in the undertow surfing the internet again.)
I can't say what company I work for of course, other than you guys are probably a little off track Frankly, I'd get in a bit of trouble if it was figured out, so please don't do any detective work and make me regret reaching out for as much reference as possible! Also, I got an e-mail with some helpful links from someone at my Gmail account, but it took forever to make it work. I don't think I will use that e-mail any more, so please send messages to [email protected].

By the way, there are a lot of impressive artists on this site who seem to have what it takes to work professionally. I've seen a lot of cool looking bios and concept work that I hope is also getting sent to companies as portfolio pieces. Sometimes I think the difference between professional artists and hobby artists is just that the hobbyists don't realize how good they are.

Thank you again for your immediate responses, I appreciate the enthusiasm and help! "

I read the thread and somehow I get the feeling:

1. Dude is lying.

2. He lied to get everyone there to basically find all the pics he wanted to get. There's a whole section on the Lair for "Reference Material" and also there's a lot of reference photos at Dan's/Faken's other site PredatorStuff which is linked right on the front page. Hell you can type in "Plasma Caster" in any search engine and get a crap load of reference pics/sites with pics. Also the secrecy of this persons company is suspicious as well. You even pointed it out:

Kyle Wyndrix asked the same thing of The Hive when he was sculpting the Alien figure.

He didn't have any problem mentioning who he was sculpting it for.

I call BS.

To be honest...I kinda got the same feeling from his last post.

He's either lying about it, or he works for FOX and is trying to get names of people sculpting props from the movie.

Movie studios have been cracking down on unlicensed sculptors lately.

I went ahead and edited my post there.

that sucks if it's not true. Although I've pretty much moved up from 6" figures, I'd buy a NECA Predator figure in a heartbeat. Although it's not much now, hearing McFarlane was making a Predator figure was one of the best news I remember hearing back then:lol I still have the original 2 I bought.

It is great. I turned mine into some lame custom. But I have the HT P1..which makes up for everything.

oh, hell yeah. HT P1 makes everything else not even matter:rock On that note, more Pred toys definitely wouldn't hurt and would be more than welcomed in my collection:D

Well, he's responded to my questioning of his authenticity.

Here's his response.

I'm not sure who it would be, if not NECA.

"Well, I imagine when Kyle was openly discussing the project on the Hive it was already officially announced. What would get me in trouble is this project hasn't been, and these announcements are timed and revealed in a planned way that I don't want to screw up.

As for being disappointed that it's not Neca, we're trying our best to make it ultra-accurate and I think you won't be disappointed in the end!

Meanwhile, please do post anything revealing that odd side of the gun, or any obscure pics of the gun, forearm kitbashing and the inner side of the backpack, I am sculpting the gun as we speak and it should be done tomorrow. I will still check this site since I can still go back and correct something if I get a good piece of reference, but I want you to know that time is very limited to help.

I have already found a few great items on the site, and appreciate it a lot, but it is looking like I will ultimately need to invent some of the details on this gun since reference on it is so limited. Any cool shots I see checking up here will get me that much closer to the most film accurate plasmacaster!

Thanks for all your help, folks.

I have the HT's Predator and it's a great figure. The only thing is it could be a better sculpt and should be for what it cost. It's much ike the Alien being it's in the ball park but not as accurate as you would think. Too cool this guy wants to get it right. Predator one is just the coolest but it must be very hard to sculpt it accurate. The MCFarlane figure is way down the hill for what they should have put out. Sad really.

Well, I really wish it was you guys at NECA doing it.

But, since it's not...now you can concentrate on making an accurate ALIEN3 figure! :D

HINT! HINT!

Who is it then? There really is no other company....unless its someone from Japan...like Rolvotech.....*drools*

I doubt it's Revoltech.

If he's trying to get the plasma caster as accurate as possible, it would have to be for a figure where the size of it would matter.

A Revoltech Pred would be so small, the plasma caster's detail wouldn't really matter.
