Yes....we know! :lol

ya, that's been my computer background ever since they published it. :)

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

now that we have had iPhone pics, regular pics and the discussion - I am very excited to be receiving my exclusive tomorrow. What sux is that I am camera-less for the next 10 days and don't want to post iPhone pics - but so far, this line looks to be headed down the right path.

That pic with the Cave troll is getting me antsy for bigger maquettes. As far as trolls go I want to see a Battle Troll and another Cave troll

Based on the response of some, that's probably a wise decision. :lol

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

it never ceases to amaze me how fast some form an opinion based on a cellphone pic - and most of these people have never been in the thread participating in the discussion - guess haters r gonna hate (as the kids say these days) :dunno

either way, this piece looks promising and just with the pics I've seen, I'm already wanting Gandalf and Legolas to hurry up and join my Aragorn!!

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

So here's my humble contribution to this thread, and while I still prefer the regular (hooded) portrait the EX isn't all that bad -- WHEN YOU USE THE INCLUDED HOOD PIECE (I didn't read Fremen's comments, just looked at the pics)! :gah: :slap The reason he looked all pencil-necked is that the right side of his head (our right) is supposed to touch the folded back hood, that is why the hairline looked so wonky. So yeah, cellphone pics aren't the greatest - but I've been around long enough to know that - but an incomplete display certainly can be a killer. :lol

Definately a solid entry, and something I am quite pleased with; I have no intentions of being a completist (I prefer the scale and customing of the PFs in general) but rather using these statues as fillers in my collection, but it is certainly off to a rather strong start.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Received my shipping info today. Aragorn (exclusive) will be in hand this Friday! I am part of the second group to be shipped too. I was thinking it would be a longer wait. Thanks to all for posting these pics. They make Friday seem so far away!

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

So Matt, how would you rate it on a scale of 1 - 10?

(1 being horrible, 10 being perfect)

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Ok, just got mine in. First impression is very impressive, good size and detailing. The eyes I was worried about but these turned out fine I think. As many have said the images do not really look like the piece does in person, Viggo is there but not a dead ringer.

For the rest of the review I need to confess, I was super impressed with the magnets for attaching the different versions of the head. This is important because it tells you how little I buy statues, so take the rest of this review with this fact in mind.

After playing some ball outside and sneaking peaks here and there I started to notice the paint job. Good in some places but not the midsection. My belt buckle is half sort of gobbed with brown paint and there is some general looseness and sloppiness all around the stomach area. Not fatal but something I would mention.

The other area that tweaks me is the differential amount of mud splatter on the cloak and the hood. The mud is thicker near the feet as one would expect and is lighter near the shoulders, again as one would expect. So far so good. But the hooded version has a ton of mud splatter on it to the point it looks odd. Clearly different people painted the different parts and there needed to be coordination here. It looks like it was raining mud. Perhaps a bit picky but honest nonetheless.

And now for the final comment which may just have me return it. Why I didn't notice this before is beyond me. As I put the piece together and put it on display and kept messing with it I realized what I consider to be a design flaw. The head is totally turned sideways but your eye wants to look at the front of the body but the face at the same time. This isn't really possible with this sculpt. I tried off kilter, 45 degrees, etc and I just can't find how I want this piece to look.

So the paint is fine if a little sloppy as to be expected. The eyes are fine, likeness fine, switch out heads really cool. I think I still prefer unhooded just because you can see more of the face which your eye naturally wants to see. The body posture is something I may grapple with. I have 444 of 550. If anyone wants an Ex and missed out, and despite my review, send me a PM and maybe I can sell this rather than ship it back to SS. I may keep it, let's see what tomorrow holds.

Chris

PS: 1-10, maybe a 7 overall.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

thanks for the brief synopsis - just gonna throw this out there for what it's worth, don't take this the wrong way, but we always knew the head would be looking away from the front of the statue, why does this surprise you at all, let alone bringing you to (possibly) returning it?

As I said, this was obvious all along. But when you have the 3D representation in front of you the problem really becomes apparent. This is not so apparent from pro photos in 2D.

Edit: from a distance perhaps this is not so much of a problem. Im a symmetry dude I guess.

Mine has shipped! Listed as arriving on the 10th, but I almost always have SS the next day.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Don't be afraid to post pictures. The more pictures the better, no matter what you're using to take them. Don't let trolls discourage you. :lecture

So far from the limited pictures that have been shared, the hooded head definitely looks better than the non-hooded head. Not sure if I'm allowed to say that since I'm not getting this. :monkey3 :pfft: :wave

Oh and this statue has nothing on my Ponce de Leon statue. :lol

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Going on the pictures shown, I think I prefer the hooded version now I think.

Master Sides pictures are nice. Mine will be here Monday, and as long as the eyes come out decent, I think I am going to keep it.
